“I have been a hair stylist for the past 24 years. My passion for hair and fashion started to blossom at a very young age so I always knew that I wanted to be a hairdresser, and not just any hairdresser but a salon owner as well. I began my journey in Hair Traffic Academy in Belfast where I completed my training and worked as a senior stylist. I competed in the Northern Ireland Hairdressing Championships, this gave me the thirst and eagerness for competitive work.
I opened my own salon in 2003 as I decided I was ready to take my career to the next level. Owning my own salon has allowed me to develop my interest more within the training industry and competitions. I train in London 4 times a year and attend Salon International every year in March and October, this allows me to learn the new techniques and see the new equipment and keep on top of the necessary training. I have been entered into several competitions throughout my career but I would say the biggest highlight for me has been the L'Oréal Colour Trophy, where I have been a regional finalist from 2010 until current 2019, also having made it to the L'Oréal grand final in both ladies and gents hairdressing. Attending these training courses allowed me to maintain contact with important companies.
Each January I set aside goals that I want to achieve throughout the year and well since 2020 didn't go to plan I began speaking to Michael over lockdown and it seems that Michael can see and understand my enthusiasm to learn and explore new products and tools and my ability to achieve goals and further enhance my career. I love interacting with a variety of different people within my industry and sharing tips with them and also learning new things from them. Hearing how other professionals in the industry approach certain situations has helped me keep growing as an advanced stylist.
My goals within the next 5 years is to create and open my own training school where senior hairstylists can come together and learn from each other. I really appreciate the opportunities that Michael has provided me with especially during this time where I am not able to travel and take part in more training. I am excited to see both of our industries come together and share our creative minds and I look forward to meeting a new wave of hairdressing, we will be amazing together.” Sharon
